Convenor Assessment

What are the icons in the table header for?

If any information is incorrect, please contact your departmental co-ordinator.

This table displays all the assessments for a specific course. It allows you to alter submission times, submission points, delegate assessments and and monitor the progress of an assessment. It also provides links for entering or updating marks and feedback.

Altering the submission date / submission point of an assessment

Click on 'Edit' and then select the Day&Time and/or the Submission Point. If marks have already been entered, a warning message will be displayed. To continue to change the submission date/point, click the 'Save' button. To leave the submission date unchanged, click the 'Cancel' button. Delegated tutors are able to change the week; convenors are not. This is because the week of assessment is part of the approved curriculum and so should not be changed, for reasons such as the impact of assessment load on students. However, some courses will have different groups of students attending equivalent teaching events in different weeks, so when marks entry is delegated to teaching groups it is permissible to change the week at the teaching group level. If a delegated tutor changes the submission date, then the tutor and the students will see this change. You as Convenor will not.

Delegating an assessment

If your school policy permits, you may delegate the marking of assessments to teaching group level, so that marking will be done by course tutors. When editing the 'Convenor Assessments' table, the 'Delegated To' column displays a list of teaching groups to which you could delegate the assessment. Once an assessment is delegated, you can choose to remove the delegation, as long as no marks have been entered by the tutors. The 'Tutor Update' column displays a drop-down list of options for how far you want to allow the tutor to be able to edit the submission deadline for the assessment. You may also set the ‘Amend Submission Point’ flag to ‘Yes’ to allow the teaching group tutor to amend the submission point.

If you have delegated the marking of an assessment to teaching group level, you will not be able to amend the submission Day / Time / Point. If you wish to change the Day /Time/Point, you should:

1.  un-delegate the assessment, and save

2.  edit the date and time, and/or the submission point, and save

3.  re-delegate the assessment, and save

Monitoring the progress of an assessment

The 'Status' column can help you keep track of the progress of an assessment. If you have delegated the assessment, this column will summarise how many marks have been sent to you by the course tutors. If you are marking the assessment yourself, this column will summarise your marking progress. It will display the date that marks were released to the students. There are a couple of status reports that you will see typically at the start of the academic year:

  • Not all assessments generated for the current academic year
No action is needed here, but you should be aware that one or more of the contributory assessments for this course have not yet been set up. Until the assessment is set up it will not appear on student timetables nor will you be able to mark it.
  • Set date
When assessments are created from the syllabus, they may not have been given default day and time for the submission deadline. If they do not have a day and time set, they will not appear on student timetables and you will not be able to delegate them or enter marks for them.

To add the day and time for an assessment, ensure you are in 'Edit' mode and select the correct Day and Time from the drop-down lists.
Please note that for Presentations - for which the date of presentation can vary across students - the Due Date is the final date on which a presentation can be given. Generally this date is set to the Friday of the 10th (final) week of term

Tips
