Ethical Review List Superv

What are the icons in the table header for?

FOR SUPERVISORS – What you need to check before authorising a student project.

By authorising a student’s research ethics application you need to take the following into account:

  • Is the student’s project description appropriate, with brief but clear information about the project, including justification for undertaking the research;
  • Has the student completed each question in enough detail;
  • Has the student identified all the methods they will be using;
  • Has the student uploaded the correct supporting documents (e.g. information sheet and/or consent form;
  • Are the student’s supporting documents appropriately prepared;
  • Has the student identified all the necessary permissions which will be required to undertake the project. This could include: permission letters from ‘gatekeepers’ and organisations hosting the research; ethical approval from other institutions (for example if they are planning to carry out research outside the UK or if they plan to recruit staff or students at another university);
  • Does the student have the skills and experience necessary to undertake the proposed research project.

PLEASE NOTE: In authorising a student’s application you are confirming that, provided the student follows what has been agreed, all reasonable steps have been taken to ensure that the project is conducted ethically. You are also confirming that you will be monitoring the student’s project, as it proceeds.
