Authority to recommend offers to taught applicants
The programme selector (or designated postgraduate co-ordinators in the case of admissions templates) has the authority to admit taught applicants meeting the standard entrance requirements (see below).

Recommending an offer
If the offer is conditional please state the conditions. If the offer is unconditional please state 'unconditional.' See the standard entry requirements set out below.

Recommending an underqualified offer
If an offer is made to an under-qualified applicant, please indicate the grounds on which the offer is being recommended. Please note that postgraduate co-ordinators are not authorised to recommend offers to underqualified applicants.

Other recommendation
Please state here if you wish to: defer making a decision (please give a reason), arrange an interview (please give time, date, location and interviewer name) or transfer the applicant for consideration to another programme (please give details).

Rejecting an applicant
If you wish to reject the applicant, please select the main reason for your decision.

Further Comments
You may optionally enter here reasons for your decision to reject the applicant.

Status
When you have completed your recommendation please change the status of your decision to 'FINAL.'

Standard entrance requirements
The standard academic and English language requirements are set out below. The standard requirements should be applied unless a variation is requested and set out in the Underqualified Section.

  • Masters Programmes: Normally a good honours degree or equivalent (an upper second for most non-science applicants and a lower-second for most science applicants).
  • Non UK applicants: A mark of 7 in each section of IELTS or equivalent for most non-science applicants and a mark of 6 in each section of IELTS or equivalent for most science applicants.


Research Programmes

Authority to recommend offers to research applicants
The relevant Director of Graduate Studies (or nominee i.e research selector) has the authority to admit research applicants meeting the normal entrance requirements (see below) on the recommendation of the Head of Department (or nominee i.e. research selector).

Recommending an offer
If the offer is conditional please state the conditions. If the offer is unconditional please state 'unconditional.' See the standard entry requirements set out below.

Recommending an underqualified applicant
Offers to underqualified research applicants or decisions to waive standard conditions must be approved personally by the Director of Graduate Studies. If an offer is made to an under-qualified applicant, please indicate the grounds on which the offer is being recommended.

The Postgraduate Co-ordinator for your School will ensure that any such recommendation is seen and authorised by the relevant Director of Graduate Studies (how this is actually done will vary from School to School and in most cases will involve the Director being added to the applicant record as a Commentator and invited to approve the recommendation.

Supervisors
A main supervisor must be specified. An additional or second joint supervisor should also be specified although if not yet known this can be provided subsequently (but not later than the end of the student's first term). Please indicate in % terms, the respective workload for each supervisor. Please note that in providing the names of the supervisors you are confirming that the supervisors in question have agreed to provide supervision on the terms specified.

Coursework requirements
1. Please Indicate coursework requirements for applicants underqualified to proceed directly to research. The normal requirement is two terms of coursework followed by full research registration.
2. Please indicate coursework requirements if applicant is qualified to proceed directly to research but is required to undertake coursework simultaneously.
