Ref 2021 Circumstances

What are the icons in the table header for?

This form is for the declaration of the individual circumstances in order for them to be potentially taken into account in the REF2021 submission. Before making a declaration, please read the University's REF2021 individual circumstances web page carefully. All disclosures of circumstances are entirely voluntary.

If you wish, before you disclose circumstances, you have the option to have a preliminary discussion either with the University's Research Quality and Impact Team or a Human Resources advisor.

This form is the only means by which the University will be gathering details of circumstances declared for REF; we will not be consulting HR records, contract start dates, etc.

You can declare any circumstances within the categories listed below that have significantly constrained your ability to undertake research during any time you were contracted to do so since 1 January 2014.

Your declaration, if accepted as representing a valid circumstance for REF purposes, may result in either a reduction in the overall volume of outputs required for REF2021 within your unit of assessment (UoA) at Sussex or, if your circumstances have meant that you were unable to produce any research outputs since 1 January 2014, in a removal of the normal requirement for a minimum of one output per REF-eligible staff member. In order for your circumstance to be considered for the most relevant outcome(s), please answer the question at the top of the form below.
